Dartmouth, NS - When Brittany and I moved to Turkey exactly one year ago this month, we left behind our two precious dogs. Winnie, a 12 year old Yorkie, and Sophia (pictured left) a Boxer Golden. Brittany's mom and her boyfriend took care of them while we were gone on our Turkish adventure, and we couldn't thank them enough for that!
But it seems that our dogs were not too happy with us after our 6 month abandonment and then moving them from their lovely home in Vermont to Nova Scotia.
I say this because as soon as we moved here, Sophia developed a horrible scratching habit (later found out to be food allergies). Due to her scratching she managed to create hematoma's in her ears. This caused more scratching and the building up of yeast and bacteria in her ears.
We took her to the vet that favoured holistic approaches to treating animals and we were charged a lot of money for the consultation and some Chinese herbs. This didn't work. At the advice of our vet we had surgery done, which failed. Then we had to have more surgery! Third times a charm, the last surgery worked and was able to cure her ears. The food allergy was a whole another time draining process. Meanwhile, our bank accounts became empty as we soon realized that our Vet had taken us for fools and we spent all our savings on Sophia.
But, she eventually got better. Then our second dog, Winnie, became covered in a rash and scratched off half her hair! Long story short, we went to a different Vet and now she is on the road to recovery (despite another hefty bill).
We are both very glad that our dogs are getting better, but not happy about how we have no money left (no exaggerating!).
Hope they enjoyed their revenge!
