Big day in the FHL

So today is a big day in the Federal Hockey League. Today is the press conference for the new expansion team to be located in Danville, Illinois. No word on who is attending and the press conference is supposed to be taking place right now. Anxiously waiting to hear the team name and any other possible teams located out west.

However, the FHL is noticeably failing in marketing and press releases. Check the league website, any word about the Green Mountain Rock Crushers? Does the team exist on the website? Not seeing them as of today. Also, anyone follow the FHL on twitter? They have 99 followers yet the league has not used this valuable social media tool to stay in touch with fans since December!

Another rumour circulating is that the New York Aviators, who just moved on into the finals after knocking off fan favourite Danbury Whalers, that they may be leaving the league next year. After terrible attendance, it is no surprise that the team is struggling financially. The Aviators only averaged 438 fans this season and one can guess that those number are inflated with either free tickets or ghost fans.

The Danbury Whalers saw themselves continue their league attendance domination having 2500+ fans attended each game last weekend. Pretty impressive, and congrats to the team on a well executed marketing plan. Also helps that they have the only decent sized rink in the FHL.
