Well, for those of you who haven't been following the NHL lately, you have been missing out on another chapter of the "Worst Contract Ever Signed: the Rick DiPietro Story." After spending most of his NHL career in the press box from injuries, including last season, DiPietro returned this season to try to silence his critics (including me) and prove he is worth his 15 year $67.5 million contract. According to the CBC Rick has only played 34 games since the 2008-09 season, mainly from knee and hip issues. For those of you who have not seen the fight, well here it is (get ready to laugh):



Rick is now out for 4-6 weeks with a fractured face and knee problems. What an idiot! I mean, I love fighting, especially goalie fights. I have been in a couple and they are a blast. But when you are a made of glass and haven't put together a solid season since  08-09, AND you have a multi-million contract for another 11 years, I would probably stay in my net (also not fighting the teams back up goalie, no offense Johnson). Not to mention, instead of smiling before the fight, maybe he should have noticed that Johnson throws punches with his left fist. OUCH.

Well, maybe Evgeni Nabokov will report the Islanders now! What season the Islanders are having though. Not only are they struggling in the standings, but they are struggling to put fans in the seats in their ancient arena (averaging only 9,856 fans per game!!! League average is 17,000). The only shining star is that they could land a high draft pick this year.

When Johnson's punch landed on DiPietro's face, it was like he was also landing a KO to Islanders organization. That pretty much sums up the last two season for the Islanders, an image of DiPietro being helped off the ice with press release the next day announcing his injury. Good luck next season Islanders, draft well.
