Despite being outshot by 19, Japan managed to hang on to win. Japan's goalie, Yuta Narisawa, continued his impressive play in this tournament.Proving yet again, that goaltending is the most important position in hockey! Watch the video of this goalie, this guy should be playing in North America somewhere:
Men - Group A
Russia - 26 vs Turkey - 0
SOG: 92 to 7
Turkey continued its poor performance while allowing Russia to throw everything at Turkey's goaltender Erol Kahraman. Erol faced 80 shots before being relieved from sheer exhaustion with 6 minutes left in the 3rd period. Unfortunately, Turkey's backup couldn't repeat Erol's performance and let in 6 goals on 12 shots. This begs me to point out, yet again, how Turkey fails to see the importance of defense and goaltending. Erol did all he could do, but what about the team? Blocking shots? Do they even know what D-Zone coverage is? I wished I had watched the game, and anybody who did please feel free share comments. If it wasn't for Erol, the score would have been 45 to 0.
Men - Group B
Canada - 3 vs South Korea - 2
SOG: 62 to 16
Yes, you saw that correctly. Canada outshot South Korea 62 to 16, yet only managed to win 3-2. Korea's goalie, Hyun Ho Hwang, had a career night! Canada gave up 2 goals in the 2nd period allowing Korea to tie the game 2-2 heading into the 3rd. Canada scored with 10 minutes left in regulation on the power-play to take the lead and eventually the game.
Women
Canada - 9 vs USA - 0
SOG: 44 to 11
Well, I always love when Canada beats the USA. But to the USA's defense, they faced a talented women's team and the American team is not stocked with varsity athletes that have the benefit of large athletic budgets and training facilities that our Canadian women have.

Slovakia - 8 vs Great Britain - 0
SOG: 39 to 6
With this win, Slovakia is 2 points behind top seeded Canada.
Women
Finland - 32 vs Turkey - 0
SOG: 95 to 4
It was a tough day for Turkish hockey. The men and women's teams managed to get over 90 shots against each; defense defense defense. But yet again, I must point out how the Turkish female hockey is still in the early stages of development and have not been around as long as the men's programs. Losses like these are tough and I am sure Coach Keith is a little frustrated, but I hope the women can see the lessons to be learned by playing against better opponents.
