Whatever Happened To - Trevor Kidd?

Here is another name that popped into my head recently, Trevor Kidd. Known primarily for his noticeable goalie equipment designs that were eye sores to fans and players, Kidder had a relative success in the NHL and especially before the NHL. He won 2 gold medals in the 1990 and 1991 World Junior Championships on a Canadian team that featured Eric Lindros and Scott Niedermayer (he beat out Martin Brodeur for the spot on these teams!).

Kidd was drafted by the Calgary Flames in 1990 11th overall. He played 2 games for the Flames during the 1991-1992 season before they loaned him to the Canadian National team. This was back when Canada had a full-time national team made up of amateurs. Him and his Olympic team received an Olympic silver medal at the Albertville Winter Games after losing 3-1 to the Unified Team (no joke, that is what the team was called, their symbol were the Olympic Rings). The Unified Team was a united team of players from Russia, Ukraine, Kazakstan, Uzbekistan, and Armenia.

After team Canada, Kidd went on to play with the Flames for 4 seasons, Carolina Hurricanes for 2, Florida Panthers for 3, and finally finishing up his NHL career with 2 seasons on the Toronto Maple Leafs.

With the 2003-04 season finished the NHL had a lockout season, so he went to Sweden and played a short promotion season with Orebro of the Allsvenskan (Division 1, below the Eliteserien league). After that season he signed with the Hannover Scorpions of the DEL (top German league) and carried team playing 45 games. Kidder hung up his skates after his season in the DEL and hasn't been heard of in the hockey circles since.
