The Vancouver Whitecaps FC have announced their first international friendly since the club moved to Major League Soccer. The English Premier League club Manchester City FC will be making a trip to Empire Field on July 18, 2011.
This is not the first time these two clubs have met in an international friendly. The first meeting took place in 1980 with the Whitecaps walking away with a 5-0 victory. In 1981 the Blues were seeking revenge only to be turned away again by the Whitecaps, this time by a score of 2-0.
Thirty years is a long time since the last meeting and no doubt times have changed. Man City now features some top stars and a large bank account as they seek to break the goal drought against the MLS side Whitecaps.
